I do believe the resolution of internal DAC is low (given the price of mibox) compared to many better DAC available out there.

So I have the nvidia and mix box as my testing device. From extensive testing, using any audio conversion / extractor will cause lost in sound quality and volume. Using the mi box direct analog output mitigate such problems since is done intenally and the audio don't get process by another set of circuits.
If you want the best mixing sound going all digital, try the acesonic dsp 9900 for karaoke / home theater setup. I have to return it since it was to buggy and working with hmaudio Engineer took to long to get the firmware available. I may revisit the device after a few revision.
