Does any one currently using the Allen & Heath ZED-12 Mixer, I need help on how to fine tune all the knobs for singing karaoke

A picture of your current setting would be great.

Hi DT,

Rather than a long explanation of what each knobs do, also we don't know how much understanding you have for mixer board, it'll be easier if you ask a more specific question, like which knob do you have question about?

First read the user manual,
Reread the user manual with the mixer in front of you.
Follow the quick guild including with your mixer
now connect all cables to input from other output devices.
Connect your mics
connect your mixer output to your power amp
Amp to speakers
Turn on the power bar
turn on external devices like: compressor, wireless mics, Effects, Ect....
turn on the mixer
turn on the power amp
. Reverse the process when shutting down
let us know what's happening.
Happy karaoke

I knew what u meant. All the control knobs on the ZED-10FX.
The mixer has M1 to M4, ST1, ST2, FX, AND MAIN(has main mix level, playback level, aux level, monitor level, and aux mix level)
Each row is called CHANNEL STRIP. I has mic/line, gain, HF, MID, LF, FX, AUX, PAN, LEVEL, record button, and listen button.
M1 functions:
Mic/line==use either xlr or 1/4 for microphone; for guitar, keyboard, etc... use 1/4"
GAIN==control knob to let amount signal(sound) in that channel strip.
HF(high frequency)==treble sound.
MID(mid frequency)==mid range sound. There are two knobs black and blue, black for khz and blue is db. Black knob set to allow sound in and blue knob control signal in for the mid range.
LF(low frequency)==low tone
FX==control fx in that channel.
AUX==control amount sound of that channel to AUX OUT. You see speakers are on stage floor and pointed back to the band and singer. The AUX is use to control those speakers.
PAN(balance)==left or right channels.
LEVEL==main control out for that channel.
RECORD button==if you want that channel to be record to USB.
LISTEN button==if you want to listen on that channel to headphone. when u have this button turn ON, the pfl/afl light is come on. That way to tell u too much gain can cause distortion.

M2 to M4 has the same function as M1

ST1==music in from laptop or pc, cd player, iphone, ipod, mp3, etc. Plug in connection is st-1b(rca or 1/4")
ST2==another music input, play back, and USB INPUT.

RECORD OUT==(fix output) goes to Mac mini audio input if u want to use Tkaraoke record.

USB==if u want music from outside in usb port, the record usb button is need to be turn off. If u want to use usb for recording then turn on usb record button.

MONITOR OUT==goes to power amp==>monitor speakers.

FX==main control all channel strips and each channel strip has it own fx control that way u can allow how much fx on each channel strip.

FX to AUX==control amount fx to monitor out.

PLAYBACK LEVEL==control ST1 and ST2.

MAIN MIX==control main mix out(XLR PLUG).

MAIN MIX INSERT==external gear such as EQ, COMPRESSOR, ETC... Using trs(tip, ring, sleeve) insert cable.

PLAYBACK TO AUX==control amount music input to monitor out.

AUX MIX==main control on all AUX on each channel strips. Each AUX on channel strip can adjust to allow amount signal to monitor out.

MONITOR OUT==control amount signal out to monitor speaker.

MONITOR SOURCE BUTTON==select to listen from which source(main mix or phone)

Headphone==there are 3 button to select which source u want to listen in the headphone.

FX OUT==to exernal fx.

GRT1 and GRT2 hi Z ? I need to read the manual enable to tell u on that.

you must get to know your device first by reading the manual
you then can play with your mixer by connecting the mic to mic channel
Adjust mic/channel and mixer main output so that the signal will not be clipped when you are singing loud
Play with mic channel EQ to shape your vocal to your desire sound. it is just like you need to EQ your music to your desire sound.
Add effect to your vocal and tune EQ and FX to your desire sound
Until you are happy with your sound at this step then
you can add other components to your mixer such as external compressor, external EQ, etc...

ZED-10FX

Thanks BPham for your details description it really help cause the Manual doesn't explain much, anyway here is a pic of my Zed-10FX setting, can you guys take a look and tell me if there anything that I miss or need adjustment to make the mic sound more better because now it sounds only Ok.

Also my question for the FX setting (red circle #8) there're 16 effects preset, do I or can I use multiple setting at one time or only one at a time, what # 1-16 effect is best for vocal (karaoke).

Thanks guys.

#2 black knob right now u set at 12 o'clock, try in between 12 to 3 o'clock to see it help.
Turn the LF blue knob down to 10 or 11 o'clock which cut back low tone.
Only 1 fx to be select. Try #1,#2, and #3 to see which one it sound better.
Practice make it better.
